Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE: Directly responsible for engaging youth ages 14-24 in employment related activities such as Career Competency Training, Internships and/or Job Placements and Retention Support.
• Overview: Workforce Development Services offers an array of services/activities that prepare youth (17-24) for the workforce. Workforce Development Specialist assists youth with their transition from Career Competency Development Training (CCDT) to employment.
Essential Duties and Functions
• Administer career assessments/Interest Inventories.
• Engage youth in career counseling/planning.
• Facilitate/coordinate Career Competency Development Training (i.e. Job Readiness Training).
• Facilitate/coordinate Financial Literacy workshops (including identifying guest speakers).
• Facilitate/administer Work Readiness Credential and Vocational Certification.
• Identify, develop and sustain employment-related relationships.
• Identify job placement and internship worksites.
• Assist youth with the development of a professional portfolio.
• Offer job placement assistance, job coaching and retention support.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
• Links to Hartford area businesses, colleges, school systems, and community service organizations.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Education, Counseling or other related field.
• At least 2 years of academic, career and/or financial aid counseling experience.
• Understanding of WIA eligibility guidelines and measures.
• Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse populations and different levels of school and government personnel.
• Knowledge of issues related to postsecondary access including target populations, community agencies, member colleges and universities, etc..
• Ability to initiate activities and work independently.
• Ability to collaborate and work on teams.
• Ability to represent center program mission to external constituencies.
• Good organizational and follow-through skills.
• Computer Literate in Microsoft Office applications.
