WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:
Strong commercial property underwriting knowledge: This position is responsible for executing on the underwriting strategy and contributing to top line and bottom line financial goals. This is done through rigorous management of the referral process and implementation of underwriting best practices. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Underwriting Direction: This position is responsible for adherence to and as needed, creation of underwriting guidelines designed to assist underwriters in sales execution. In so doing, uses underwriting guidelines, training, mentoring, account referrals and competitive knowledge to deliver results. Responds to underwriters'' referral requests for use of manuscript endorsements. Monitors usage of manuscripts and identifies trends

Technical Leadership - provide consistent support to Field U/W (both Specialists and Generalists) for Property business. This would include ad hoc requests, training and account specific details that require a certain level of specialization.

Assist in Creation and Implementation of Training by working closely with other members of the Leadership team to identify training needs and assist in creation and delivery of actual training, in consultation with the HIG Corporate Education Department.

Mentoring or Coaching for Field U/W''s - this may be in the form of improved sales skills related to product or improving agency relationships, etc
*
Provide underwriting guidance and solutions to the Field Underwriter on account risk selection and pricing guidance, risk reward equation, exposure analysis, and property risk retention and treaty/reinsurance purchasing.

Engage with loss control when necessary to further understand exposure and hazard analysis of risk.

Engage in claims to understand lessons learned and state issues as it relates to property.

Day to day interaction the Field Underwriting and Management on account solutions and property line of business strategy and execution.

Provide insights and assist in the development of new Property products.

Quality Improvement: Evaluates QAT results to effectively drive underwriting improvement. Frequent interaction with field underwriters on specific account referrals. As assigned, coordinates partners on the development of underwriting policy; provides market analysis to selected home office staff to assist in the formulation of market strategy.

Employee Development: Works with The Hartford''s Claims organization, or appropriate third party claim administrators, to monitor claim activity for the Healthcare book of business.

Financial Performance: Monitors financial results of this role''s respective division(s) by working closely with Field and Home Office partners to assure that the underwriting strategy is being properly executed. Assist with the development of the annual operating plan.

Strong agency and market focus. Assists divisions in creating strong brand recognition for Property and line of business. Does this on as needed basis by representing the organization at industry events and agency meetings. As well, aligns closely with field organization to joint travel with underwriters in support of this function and to coach and mentor underwriters and managers.

Product support - this role may assist in the identification or business case for new or enhanced products for The Hartford''s property offerings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* BS/BA in business administration, insurance, or related field
* 8 years related underwriting/product development experience in Property and/or Marine
* CPCU preferred
* Superior analytical & problem-solving skills
* Ability to work in a dynamic environment on multiple projects, tasks or assignments
* Results orientation
* Superior communication skills, both oral & written
* Motivated self-starter with demonstrated initiative; ability to work independently with minimal direction
* Ability to deal confidently with all levels of the organization, including senior executives in home office, field managers and field underwriters
