Anywhere.Responsibilities***Participates in creating, writing and editing compelling content for assigned sports news stories; participates in the development of the creative concepts of assigned sports news stories ***Determines style, edits copy to meet established tone and theme requirements; enhances assigned content; typically is assigned less complex stories***Assists in coordinating treatment and development of news stories with production personnel, reporters and others contributing across all ESPN entities ***Participates in determining or determines the content and focus of each assigned sports news story; identifies and follows-up on assigned emerging stories and breaking news ***Uses sports knowledge and news judgment to determine the concepts and content to reach viewers and to increase ESPN***s market penetration, ratings and viewership***May identify trends and develop coverage for less-than-obvious stories ***Generates story ideas; contributes to special features and stories; may edit multiple stories ***May research and assemble semi-complex information for assigned stories***Implements solutions with good editorial judgment that can be easily redirected by senior staff ***Operates under close supervision, within the context of well-defined story assignments; implements assigned work with regular guidance from News Editors and the Senior News Editor***Work is subject to regular review by direct supervisor and the responsible News Editor or Sr. News Editor at regular intervals and milestonesBasic Qualifications***Has established expertise to create and write compelling sports news stories; generates and executes story ideas from concept to execution ***Has working mastery of sports reporting and news packaging processes and the ability to gather, interpret and create assigned sports news stories ***Has a high level of knowledge of real-time sports news production ***Has a strong level of experience utilizing social media platforms to gather and evaluate news and information***Has and applies strong knowledge of what story ideas and concepts to use for assigned sports news stories ***Has a high level of knowledge of sports and sports history***Excellent communication/interpersonal skillsPreferred Qualifications***5+ years of progressively complex related journalistic experience ***Has a good appreciation of ***What***s Now*** and assists with defining the tastes of ESPN***s viewers ***Has a good understanding of ESPN***s editorial policies and strategies ***Excels in deadline situations; has regularly demonstrated ability to produce high-quality content under significant time constraintsPreferred EducationDegree in JournalismRequired EducationBachelor***s degree or equivalentAdditional InformationImagine a career with an organization that brings smiles to millions every day.
