SUMMARY: Travelers Personal Insurance Research and Development is seeking Sr. Consultant with the Homeowners group. You will be part of the team that drives the pricing for homeowners insurance and is responsible for multivariate modeling that defines our pricing scheme and lends insight to business issues and needs. You will be also be working on cutting edge analytics such as geo-spatial analysis. This position can be located in St. Paul, Chicago or Hartford. PRIMARY DUTIES: Under limited direction, you will be involved in the entire life-cycle of a project: o Stay abreast of company and industry performance, trends and challenges o Understand the intricacies of our business and identify opportunities for analysis o Work collaboratively with business partners to identify their needs and constraints o Prepare data for analysis o Perform a variety of advanced statistical analyses including data mining and actuarial research techniques o Present analysis and recommendations o Help business partners to absorb, utilize and/or implement findings Your skills will include: o Top-notch creative analytical skills o Intermediate knowledge of predictive modeling tools (regression, GLMs, validation techniques, etc.) o Intermediate skills in programming, preferably in SAS or R o Basic knowledge of database principles and profiling o Self-motivated and resourceful personality o The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously o Geo-spatial experience is desired but not required EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY: At least a Masters degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, finance, actuarial science, computer science, geography, spatial statistics or equivalent. WORK EXPERIENCE: 1 to 3 years of work experience in research and/or advanced analytic work (e.g. predictive modeling). COMPUTER SKILLS: Computer Proficiency: Ability to read/revise/review a statistical software program (e.g. R, SAS, SPSS); Ability to create intermediate programs from scratch. OTHER: Leading the Business: Collaborate with business partners to identify business needs/opportunities. Design and develop analytic solutions that result in tangible value to the business in collaboration with analytics colleagues and business partners. Ensure successful implementation/rollout of analytic solutions to the business via ongoing monitoring and validation. Leading Self: Seek career development and growth that lead to value to the organization Business Acumen: Understanding and knowledge of key business knowledge areas (e.g. product, enterprise, industry, claim process and competitors) that enable project work. Critical Thinking/Decision Making: Ability to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues; ability to use reason; review facts, identify inconsistencies and weigh options; ability to make logical and timely decisions that address the right issues. Technical: Modeling: Ability to develop models and interpret model results with minimum training/guidance. Statistics: Understanding of intermediate statistics underlying data models; ability to apply new statistical procedures to work. Demonstrates intermediate ability and knowledge of database principles, data profiling, statistics and data modeling and can apply this knowledge in the full range of typical situations with minimal or no guidance.
