Job SummaryReport to Risk Control Boiler and Machinery Field Manager. Deliver quality and timely risk control service to internal and external customers in the assigned territory. Work closely with Boiler and Machinery underwriting and claim groups, in support of making informed decisions to maximize profit and growth. Performs jurisdictional inspections on all accounts, risk evaluations on less complex accounts and claims investigations as assigned. Participate in training opportunities to enhance/develop risk control and product/service knowledge. Support by manager in the identification and evaluation of risks and in the development of Risk Control recommendations
Primary Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesAt the direction of the Manager, performs risk evaluations, evaluate exposures and controls, develop meaningful loss estimates, and communicate findings to business partners. Apply critical thinking to determine adequacy of control, likelihood of loss, magnitude of loss, and overall insurability. At the direction of the Manager investigate claims as requested by the claim department. Evaluate elements of the accident, extent of damage, damage verification, invoice review, and cause of loss. Identify external factors that may have contributed to the loss, and opportunities for subrogation. Effectively document, communicate, and report findings. Conduct boiler and pressure inspections in accordance with jurisdictional rules by performing thorough examinations, identifying hazardous conditions, applying appropriate codes and standards, recommending corrective action, and submitting required reports. Explain to customer how these recommendations impact their business and appropriate courses of action. Build and maintain productive relationships with underwriting and service teams assigned to support the business, with the broker/agent community, with claim, and with clients. Manage workload within an assigned territory by utilizing all available resources. Take ownership of the territory and effectively prioritize, plan, and schedule work. Utilize technology resources for maximum efficiency. Respond to customer requests in a timely and professional manner.
Education, Work Experience and KnowledgeNational Board Certification, or combined education and experience in the operation, inspection, or repair of boilers/pressure vessels as required to sit for the National Board examination within six months of employment.
Environmental/Work Schedules/OthertPerform all tasks in accordance with the Travelers Boiler and Machinery Safety Program. B and M Risk Control personnel should be certain that proper accident prevention and hygiene controls are in place for all tasks and should not expose themselves to: : Unguarded elevations and unsecured ladders, or non:standard or unsafe means of ascent or descent. : Confined spaces that have not been verified as having sufficient oxygen, and verified are free of any toxins above OSHA action levels. : Confined spaces that contain explosive materials : Flammable liquids : Asbestos, or any other toxic materials : Moving equipment : Unguarded machinery : Exposed electrical conductors : Boilers, pressure vessels and machinery that has not been properly locked out and tagged out to a condition of zero energy of all forms. : Eye and ear hazards : Extremely hot or cold surfaces or ambient conditions.
