Job Summary
Under limited supervision, this position provides high quality, cost effective contract drafting and negotiation services and compliance and regulatory advice. Collaborates with Corporate Law and Corporate Procurement to drive completion of a high volume and wide variety of vendor contracts to support the Workers Compensation, Auto, Property and Liability Claim businesses. Researches and prepares opinions on a variety of claim compliance and regulatory issues. Manages outside counsel on selected matters.
Provides legal support to clients in Workers Compensation, Auto, Property and Liability Claim on a wide range of contracts with vendors that provide services to Travelers Claim.
Provides legal advice on a variety of issues, including contracts, claim initiatives, compliance, regulatory inquiries, and emerging trends.
Completes contracts, amendments and other required items in a timely manner.
Achieves desired results through effective analysis, legal research, and advocacy.
Demonstrates excellent research and writing skills. Provides thorough, accurate and timely analysis of legal issues.
Collaborates and works effectively with others in the Claim Legal organization, and with Claim, Corporate, and other areas of the company, to achieve results and to identify and resolve issues.
Communicates effectively with clients, exhibiting strong verbal and written communication skills.
Provides legal updates to clients on contract matters and regulatory and legislative developments.
Completes research and analysis for claim initiative projects, and for special projects, providing a quality work product in a timely manner.
Achieves positive client feedback. Has frequent independent contact with clients.
Provides prompt and appropriate communication to Claim clients.
Develops and conducts training seminars as needed.
Explains issues, ideas and concepts that are incorporated into work assignments.
May supervise legal support staff (non:attorneys).
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

Provides high quality, cost effective legal advice and recommendations for action to business clients regarding moderately complex to complex matters which have or may have a significant impact on business activities and operations.
Identifies and protects the legal interest of the company. Researches legal principals and precedents within area of specialization or expertise. Identifies unique issues in assigned matters and recommends appropriate responses to those issues.
Proactively identifies and communicates risk to internal and/or external customers and provides recommendations on how to mitigate that risk.
Maintains positional consistency.
Responsible for managing outside counsel and advising senior business clients on financially significant and complex matters.
Maintains awareness of judicial climate and legal developments through the review of legal publications, on:line documentation and attendance at seminars and conferences.
Builds and maintains strong internal and external client relationships.
May act as mentor and coach to less senior attorneys, paralegal/staff; explains issues, ideas and concepts that are incorporated into work assignments.
